For the second year in a row St James High School had four wrestlers qualify for the 2010 Missouri State High School Activities Association’s wrestling championships in Columbia, Missouri held Feburary 18, 19 and 20. The St James wrestling program is only 3 years old and this brings a lot of credit to the program and coaching staff. Representing St James were Nick Declue, Payton Woolsey, Cory Rose, and Jason Walls. Declue and Walls were eliminated from the competition during the first round wrestle backs when both were pinned by opponents for the second straight time. Woolsey was eliminated in the round 2 wrestle backs. Rose wrestled his way to 6th placed and secured himself a spot on the medal stand. Rose becomes the first St James wrestler to bring a state championship wrestling medal home to St James High School. One certainly can’t be disappointed with the wrestlers or the program.

Rolla High School qualified 9 wrestlers for the state championships, and while none earned higher than a third place medal it speaks highly of Rolla’s new coach to get so many wrestlers to the state competition. We can expect great things from both Rolla and St James in the years to come.

I had the honor of attending the 2010 MSHSAA wrestling championships on assignment from the St James Leader Journal and the Rolla Daily News. My entire collection of images for St James are here and Rolla are here. I’m already looking forward to next year.

Congratulations to both St James and Rolla!

While it may still be grey, dreary, dismal, and ugly outside, it is not too early to start thinking about scheduling your session for your Senior Portraits. Yes, you are busy, but waiting until the very last minute will put you in serious risk of not being able to get pictures taken at all!

It’s unfortunate, but the later you wait to schedule the less chance you have of getting in. Don’t wait until two weeks before graduation and realize you haven’t had your senior pictures taken yet. Two weeks is not enough time to have them taken, proofed, ordered and printed in time for graduation.

Call now and let us know you intend to have them done here. I’ll work around your schedule and mine to shoot YOU in your element. Check out the senior picture tips by clicking on the seniors tab above. Ask questions, don’t be afraid to express yourself – they are your senior pictures after all.

Over the weekend I shot pictures at the St James 5th/6th grade girls basketball tournament for the St James Leader Journal newspaper. The 6th grade girls team beat Bourbon in the first round, but had their hands full with a quicker, taller, more skilled team in the second round. This second round loss matched St James against Owensville who they beat to place 3rd. Unfortunately, the 5th grade girls team faired far less fortunate. A series of losses matched them against Cuba playing for the 7th place tournament spot, and they failed to secure a win in that game too.

Shooting St James High School wrestling is one of my ongoing freelance assigments for the St James Leader Journal this winter. The wrestlers from Owensville High School were hosted by St James on December 14th. St James has a young program yet their wrestlers continue to develop and improve their skills with each meet they participate in. I hate to jinx a program, but St James has the potential to have a number of wrestlers competing in state competition this year.

Results from the dual were:

119-Nick Declue was open

125- Payton Woolsey was open and won an exh. Against Trevor Gooch

130-Corey Busche was pinned by Joel Littrell

135- Cory Rose lost 13-4 to Jack Saebens

140-Brett Davis pinned Grant Jarvis

145- Jason Walls was pinned by Alex Saebens

152-StJ was open to Devon Flyod

160- Chase Dillon pinned Dietrich Bomback

171- StJ was open to Gabe Hollander

189-StJ was open to Aaron Polhmann

215-StJ was open to Aaron Walker

Hwt-Cory Nowland was pinned by Jake Hinson

In Exh. Grant Brooks pinned Dylan Abernathy

The entire image set from the meet can be viewed here.
